Mohawk Mountaineers softball failed to capitalize on offensive opportunities and left many runners on base in both their 13-4 and 6-1 losses to the Lambton Lions on Saturday.

Game one saw Lambton's offence strike early and the opposition never looked back. Mohawk had tied the game after going down in the second inning, but the potent Lions' offense never let up on their way to the win.

Olivia Thompson (Peterborough, ON) pitched majority of the game, going six innings and Ally Lawson (Beamsville, ON) would pitch the final frame for the Mountaineers.

In game two Mohawk had a much more competitive effort but just could not get the timely hitting they needed for the win.

Pitcher Kerri Smith (Hagersville, ON) opened the scoring for the Mountaineers in the first inning with an RBI triple and although that was their only offence on the day, her strong performance on the mound kept Mohawk in the game until the end.

An error by Mohawk would allow Lambton to tie the game in the fourth and the Lions would finally explode with five runs in the seventh to seal the win. It's the third game of the last four that Mohawk has given up winning runs in the final inning.

Offensive highlights on Saturday came from Smith who went 3-for-6 between both games and Hope General (Six Nations) who went 3-for-6 on the day as well with two doubles and an RBI.

The Mountaineers will look to turn things around on Sept. 21 when they travel to play the Seneca Sting in an away doubleheader with game one starting at 6 p.m. and game two set for 8 p.m.
