ANCASTER - No. 15 Humber women's volleyball finished off the first half of the season with an intense 3-2 victory against the Redeemer Royals (4-5, 5th West) on Dec 6. The final set scores were 24-26, 25-14, 25-18, 22-25, and 15-13.

Humber had a slow start as they entered their Friday night battle, being unable to find momentum in the loud Redeemer gym. The Hawks had to play hard to maintain their lead throughout the first set, as the Royals put in work to stay on the Hawks' tails. Humber called their first timeout of the match at 18-20, as the Royals heated up for a late lead. Kills by Hayley Henderson and Cassidy Andrews helped the Hawks keep up, before ultimately dropping the set at a close 24-26.

Humber got back into rhythm entering the second and third set, taking quick leads over the hosting Royals. Service runs by Alex Bartmann and blocks by Shiann Williams added to the Hawks' momentum, as their leads continued to grow. Freshman libero Alex Lachapelle maintained control of the Royals offence, picking up 20 digs and two assists. Hannah Petcoff and Danielle Miles finalized the second and third set for the Hawks at 25-14 and 25-18, with aggressive kills from the outside position.

Danielle Miles earned the first point for Humber entering the fourth set, placing a big kill down the line. The energy in the gym began to favour the Hawks, as the Royals commanded the lead for the majority of the set. Calling the sets first timeout at 13-15, the Hawks needed to slow down their game and remain disciplined. Hayley Henderson got the fire back on Humber's court with an unstoppable presence at the net. An outside kill by Hannah Petcoff brought the Hawks back, tying the score at 18, and pushing Redeemer into a timeout. This run was short-lived, as the Royals began to push back, using their crowd to carry them to an intense victory, 25-22.

The Hawks continued to play hard as they went into the final set, as Redeemer remained a steady force on the court. Having to fight over the gym's energy, it was difficult for Humber to remain in the lead. An ace by Hannah Petcoff at 8-8 began to place the Hawks on the right path as they soon pushed a Redeemer timeout. The battle was nowhere near over, as the Royals responded with back-to-back kills. Both teams fought hard right until the end when third-year middle Alex Krstonosic earned the final point of the game with an assertive kill at 15-13.

Freshman Hannah Petcoff was the lead scorer for the Hawks, earning 11 kills and three aces. Second-year Hayley Henderson backed her up with 11 kills and five digs.
