DC dominates Lancers in home opener

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team defeated the visiting Loyalist Lancers in straight sets on Thursday evening in front of a supportive crowd at the Lords home opener at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. Set scores were 25-8, 25-7, 25-8.

Durham held the Lancers to single-digit scoring in each of the three sets won, defeating the visitors in just over an hour. 13 different Lords saw the court in the victory, while DC dominated the service game with five players recording two or more service aces.

The night was made even more special by the results of the Durham Lords volleyball Think Pink fundraiser which saw the volleyball teams and those in attendance raise over $800 in support of a local family and their cancer treatment.  The Lords will look to duplicate the impressive outing next Thursday, Oct. 31 as they welcome the Seneca Sting to the CRWC. First serve for the Halloween Night showdown is set for 6 p.m. with the game being streamed on OCAA LIVE.
  • For the second straight match fourth-year captain Jessica Joensen (Newcastle, Ont.) led the Lords in scoring with nine points from eight kills and one block over just two sets played.
• Three more Lords added seven points apiece with Georgi Williams (Whitby, Ont.) recording six aces and one kill, Cassidy Nicholson-Clarke (Ajax, Ont.) notching four kills and three aces, and Melia Ciccarelli (Toronto, Ont.) four kills and three service aces.
  • A strong night overall for the second-year setter, Williams added 20 assists in guiding the Lords offence.
• First-year libero Tiana Cowper (Calgary, Alta.) recorded a game-high 10 digs in the victory for Durham.
