Men's Basketball Ends First Half on Seven Game Win Streak

ETOBICOKE — Humber men's basketball ended the first half on a high note, picking up its seventh straight win, defeating the Conestoga Condors (4-7, 8th West), 105-86, Thursday evening. 

Cy Samuels led the way for Humber on the night, recording his second straight double-double, scoring 11 points to go along with 19 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks. 

Humber came into the first quarter hot, opening the game on a 19-4 run, forcing Conestoga to take an early timeout. The Hawks offence went cold following that break, as they were outscored 21-6 the rest of the quarter as the teams ended the first tied at 25. 

The Hawks were finally able to break away from the Condors in the third following a back-and-forth first half. Humber put up 30 points in the quarter using a 10-0 run to take control of the game. Humber shot 11-for-23 (47.8 percent) in the quarter, sparked by Kevin Otoo as he picked up seven points in the frame. 

The fourth quarter was again all Humber, pushing its lead up to 20 early in the quarter. The Hawks finished with a game-high 32 points in the fourth shooting 13-for-25 (52 percent) from the field. In the end, Humber reached the century mark for the fourth time this season taking the game, 105-86. 

Six Humber players finished in double figures, with Jaylan Morgan leading all scorers with 22 points. Kevin Otoo finished with 16 points, Khalid Adam added 13, Fowzi Mohamoud and Khalid Ismail both finished with 12, while Cy Samuels rounded things out with 11 points in the game.  

Game Notes

  • Humber shot a season-high 53.2 percent in the game, finishing 42-for-79 from the floor.
  • The Hawks have now hit the century mark in four of their last five games.
  • Cy Samuels grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds in the win.
  • Humber has now won 12 straight games at home against Conestoga.
  • The Hawks enter the break with a division best +126 point differential.
