No. 9 Women’s Basketball Concludes Homestand With Win Over Royals, 96-53

ETOBICOKE — No.9 Humber women's basketball capped off their two-game homestand with a win, defeating the Redeemer Royals (2-13, 9th West), 96-53, Thursday evening, at the North Campus Gym.

Kia Watt led the way for Humber in the win, finishing with 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals on the night.

Humber took control of this game early, as they opened the first with a 19-5 run over the Royals. The Hawks shot lights out in the opening quarter going 13-of-20 (65.0 percent) from the field on way to 33-points in the first.

The second quarter was again all Humber, as they pushed their lead to 30-points in the game, outscoring Redeemer by seven in the quarter.  By halftime, Humber had already forced Redeemer into 21 turnovers as they pestered the Royals all over the court.

Humber continued to assert themselves on both ends of the floor in the third. The Hawks held to Royals to just 8-of-28 (28.6 percent) shooting in the quarter, as they took a commanding 37-point lead into the fourth

The Hawks coasted through the final quarter with their large lead, picking up their fourteenth win on the season, taking this one by a score of, 96-53.

Four other Humber players joined Watt in double figures on the night, with Jahnae Gyles leading all scorers with 19 points in the game. Teija Wareham finished with 14 points for Humber, while Miea Campbell-Johnson recorded 12 points in the win. Jeylinh Bui rounded out the scoring as she finished with 10 points for the Hawks

No. 9 Humber women's basketball (14-1, 2nd West) will head on the road Feb. 15 for a matchup against the Lambton Lions (9-6, 5th West). Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
