KINGSTON, ON - In an exciting season opener versus the St. Lawrence Surge, the Durham College men's rugby team fell 21-19 on Saturday afternoon in Kingston.
The first match for the 2019 OCAA champion Lords, DC found themselves in a battle from the opening kick. Durham found themselves down 14-5 to St. Lawrence at halftime, before the Surge jumped ahead 21-12 after the break. Durham was able to close the gap to just a two-point deficit, but were unable to complete the comeback effort.
The Lords showcased speed on the outside as
Alex Shewchuk (Ottawa, ON) recorded two tries and
Reese Watkins (Whitby, ON) registered a single try, while
Justin Taylor (Whitby, ON) kicked two converts.
The Durham Lords will next welcome the Sheridan Bruins to Thompson Rugby Park for their home opener on Saturday, Oct. 9. Action is set to start at 1 p.m. Â
