Men’s Basketball Earn 2nd Place in West after Mohawk Win

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball moved their record to 7-1 Friday night at the SportsPlex with a 97-88 win over Mohawk College (Hamilton) and will finish in 2nd Place of the OCAA's West Division.

A steady barrage of 3-point shooting kept Mohawk in the game all night which saw them launch 44 long balls in the contest.  St. Clair answered with timely shooting but capitalized on 22 turnovers by scoring 24 points which was a deciding factor in the outcome.  The teams traded the lead several times in the opening frame, but the Saints survived with a 25-21 advantage entering the second quarter.  By halftime St. Clair was up 54-40 and although Mohawk outscored the Saints in the third (25-22) and fourth quarter (23-21) it was not enough to change the final result.

5th year guard David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, Michigan) scored a game high 28 points for his highest output of the season and added 5 rebounds for St. Clair.  Saints' 3rd year guard Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON) had a remarkable double-double scoring 16 points and cleared 18 boards.  3rd year forward Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough, ON) had 14 points to go with 5 rebounds for the Saints.  Terence Williams (Windsor, ON/Wayne Memorial) and Alberto Lopez (Barrie, ON) each also reached double figures by chipping in with 11 points to go with 7 rebounds apiece for St. Clair.

Mohawk's Deandre Goulbourne (Toronto, ON) scored 21 points and added 8 rebounds in a losing cause.

The St. Clair Men complete their West Division schedule at home on Saturday against Redeemer University College (Ancaster) at 6:00pm.
