St. Clair College Men’s Baseball Start Season with Sweep of Fanshawe

London, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team swept a doubleheader with Fanshawe Friday night at London's Dan Pulham Field with scores of 7-3 and 11-4.

In game one the Saints allowed Fanshawe to go ahead 1-0 in the second but then exploded for a 5-run third inning.  After both teams scored two runs in the fourth inning, they remained scoreless the rest of the way.

3rd year St. Clair starting pitcher Evan Ferguson (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph's) spread out four hits only surrendering two earned runs while striking out four batters and issuing four walks on the way to the win.  3rd year reliever Michael Hamlin (Harrow, ON/Essex District) held the lead down the stretch striking out two batters over his two innings work in hitless fashion.

St. Clair catcher Henry Real (Panama City, Panama) had a pair of hits including a double and two RBI's while 4th year third baseman Patrick Kibble (Windsor, ON/Riverside) reached base four times with three singles and a walk.  1st year player Brandon Culnan (Tecumseh, ON/L'Essor) also had two hits and two RBI's while shortstop Josh Anderson (Ajax, ON) stroked a triple while cashing in two RBI's for the Saints.

In the nightcap St. Clair spotted Fanshawe a 3-1 lead by the 3rd inning but a massive 9-run 5th inning proved to be the backbreaker on the way to the lopsided final.  1st year Saints pitcher Brock Whitson (Chatham, ON) gave up an earned run on four hits while striking out five batters with a walk.  Rookie pitcher Aden Ryan (Tecumseh, ON/St. Anne) cruised over the final three innings fanning seven batters and gave up just one hit.

Josh Anderson had another two hits for the Saints including a double with freshman outfielder Hunter Appleyard (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) banging a triple as part of his two hits and two RBI's while scoring a pair of runs.  Real's double helped him collect another three RBI's for St. Clair who needed only five team hits in the game for their 11-run total but were aided by Fanshawe's five errors.

The Saints Men's Baseball team have an exhibition Wednesday night against the University of Windsor at Lacasse Park at 7pm but head back on the road next weekend for doubleheaders Saturday against Seneca College (North York) and Sunday against George Brown College (Toronto).
