HUSKIES GO 1-1 ON EASTERN ROAD TRIP

Huskies players wait for serve with hands on knees

The George Brown Men's Volleyball Eastern Ontario road trip got off to a slow start on Saturday evening (Nov 12), when they dropped their opener to the Algonquin Wolves in straight sets 3-0 (18-25, 13-25, 21-25) in Ottawa, ON.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The hometown Wolves (5-2) did not waste any time coming out hard against the visiting Huskies (2-4). Behind offensive leader Jeff Commerford, Algonquin took the first set off the Huskies 25-18 to start the match.

George Brown could not manage to solve Algonquin in the second set either, which the Wolves comfortably took by a score of 25-13. The Huskies had an uncharacteristically quiet night from usual powerhouses David Kiswa, Arsam Talebi and David Fountain. The three hitters only combined for 22 total points on the evening (9, 5 and 8 points, respectively), a significant departure from their usual combined totals.

The Huskies battled hard in the third set to try and keep the match alive, but would fall just short, with the Wolves taking what proved to be the third and final by a score of 25-21.

Back in action the following afternoon against the La Cite Coyotes (0-6), George Brown looked to turn things around.

HOW IT HAPPENED: After the loss to Algonquin the previous evening, George Brown regrouped and came out focused and much more effective to start the match against the Coyotes on Sunday afternoon (Nov 13). The Huskies left nothing to chance, taking advantage of every opportunity to start off strong and opened the match with a 25-11 opening set win.

Neither team was highly efficient in their attacks in the second set, but George Brown still came out on top by a score of 25-19 to take a 2-0 lead into the third.

In the third set, George Brown brought a more consistent and efficient attack, recording 10 kills on 18 attacks with only four errors, for a kill percentage of .333. The Coyotes could not solve the Huskies defensively, and George Brown would run away with the third set by a score of 25-13 to sweep the match 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-13) for their second win of the season.

UP NEXT: The Huskies will return to home court on Friday November 18, 2022 as they host the Loyalist Lancers (1-4) at Casa Loma Campus, start time is scheduled for 8 pm. Make sure to catch all the action live on our Huskies Livestream Channel if can't make the game in person!
