Lords sweep Sting to win 10th straight match

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team hasn't lost a set in conference play since October 28, which has resulted in the team winning 10 straight matches and staying undefeated in conference play after sweeping the Seneca Sting on Thursday night in Oshawa.

Allison Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) and Lucia Kalmeyer (Oshawa, Ont.) were huge offensively with 11 kills apiece, but it was Shannon Dean (Whitby, Ont.) who had a match-high 14 points to lead the Lords.

Dean picked up two blocks and two aces to go alongside her 10 kills in the match. This was Dean's highest point output since October 28 when she had 20 points against the Algonquin Thunder. Her season-high total came a few days before with 21 points in the team's opening game of the year against Canadore.

Megan Romain (Ajax, Ont.) was on point, running the offence with 25 assists, while picking up a block and team-high three aces. Madeleine Elit (Trenton, Ont.) also had three aces, matching her career-high total that she earned on November 10 at Loyalist.

After a close 25-23 first set win over the Sting the Lords rolled to an easy victory with 25-14 and 25-16 second and third sets.

Seneca looked to Nicole Boyd offensively, as she earned a team-high nine kills. At the service line, it was Genevieve Potovszky giving Durham the most trouble as she picked up a match-high four service aces.

Durham now has tomorrow off before travelling to George Brown on Saturday for a matinee match against the Huskies. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
