DC win one, lose one on Day 1 of OCAA championship

LONDON, Ont. - The defending OCAA champion Durham Lords softball team will be in tough to repeat after splitting Day 1 of the 2019 OCAA championship on Friday, hosted by Fanshawe College.

Durham opened the day with a decisive 6-2 victory over the St. Clair Saints, scoring all six runs through the first three innings. However, DC then went on to drop a tough 3-1 decision to the top-seed Humber Hawks later in the day.

The loss forces the Lords into a tough scenario to repeat as they will open Day 2 of the competition in another showdown versus the Saints, with the winner advancing to the gold medal game against the Hawks, while the loser will claim the bronze. Should the Lords make it to the gold medal game they willl then have to defeat Humber twice in the double-elimination style championship.
