(London, Ontario) – The #5 CCAA ranked Fanshawe Women's Volleyball squad (17-0) swept the Cambrian Gold Shield (4-13) on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons got off to a quick start with a block and kill from Danielle Grasman (Komoka, ON). Janelle Albert (Brampton, ON) was strong from the service line for the red and white, notching three aces in the opening set. Fanshawe rolled to a 25-13 set one victory after a big block from Kiana Taylor (London, ON).

The home team continued to pressure the Golden Shield with a Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON) right side hit. Back-to-back service aces from local captain Meghan Morelli extended Fanshawe's lead to 14-4 midway through the second set. Albert finished up the frame with a pair of kills to give the Falcons a 25-16 second set win.

Cambrian stepped it up in set three, going up a couple of points 4-2. Fanshawe then battled back with a 7-1 run sparked by a service ace from Kim Hardy (Melbourne, ON). Taylor went off for six points in the set for the Falcons and Hardy would end the match on a huge block. Despite the Golden Shield's best efforts, the Falcons took the final set 25-19 and the match 3-0. Albert led the Birds with 15 points on the match, while Grasman and Morelli added 11 points each. With her five service aces this match, Albert tied the Fanshawe Women's Volleyball single-season service ace record with 52.

Last week, the Falcons clinched first place in the OCAA West Division and will look to make history as the first Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team to complete a perfect season. Their final regular season game will be tomorrow at 1pm against Boréal (0-17) at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre.
