Huskies men's basketball player shoots a free throw

Led by Derrick Taylor and Naseem Barry, the Huskies went 2-0 this past weekend (Nov 11 & 12) against the visiting teams from the Ottawa region.

HOW IT HAPPENED – ALG: The Algonquin Wolves (1-4) were first to visit Casa Loma Campus on Friday November 11 for a matchup against George Brown (4-1). The Huskies got out to an early six point lead after a high scoring first quarter for both teams, going up 26-20 after the first ten minutes of play.

After an evenly matched second quarter, the Huskies blew open a large lead in the third outscoring the Wolves 23-8 in the frame and holding the visitors to only a 23% field goal percentage for the quarter, including going 0-5 from behind the arc.

George Brown was lead by Derrick Taylor (2nd Year) who recorded a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, along with seven assists, and five steals. Teammate Naseem Barry (2nd Year) also had a solid offensive night, shooting 9-16 for 19 points to lead all scorers.

While they were outscored by the Wolves in the fourth quarter, the Huskies stay composed and maintained their comfortable lead until the end to record an 83-72 victory.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED – LAC: On day two of their back-to-back, the Huskies took on the La Cite Coyotes who were in search of their first win of the season.

The home team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. They took a 57-25 lead into halftime, holding La Cite's top scorer Nicolas Dutervil to only eight points in the half and 13 for the game. Dutervil has been averaging over 26 points per game this season for the Coyotes.

Naseem Barry was dominant for George Brown, connecting on 7-9 from the floor including 3-4 from 3-point range and 4-4 from behind the free throw line. He finished the game with 21 points in only 17 minutes of action.

Right alongside him was Derrick Taylor again registering a solid performance with his second double-double in as many days, scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. He also collected two steals and recorded six assists.

Rounding out the scoring for the Huskies were 2nd Year guard Jacob Masters (21 points) and DM Betoukoumessou (16 points) who was a perfect 6-6 from the floor and 4-4 from the free throw line.
