Lords make it nine in a row

OSHAWA, Ont. - In front of a supportive home crowd at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre, the Durham College women's basketball team defeated the visiting Centennial Colts 75-46 on Friday evening.

The victory marks the ninth straight win for the Lords as they continue to catapult up the OCAA standings with a 12-2 record. Durham's defence has been sensational over the nine game run, holding opponents under 50 points in their last four games and in eight of their 12 wins in total this season. On the night, DC held Centennial to just 21 percent shooting from the floor, while forcing the Colts into 23 total turnovers. In addition, the Lords interior offence was vital in the win as Durham outscored their opponent 42-14 in the paint, and shared the ball well registering 20 total assists.

Following the match, the Lords also held a special post-game ceremony, honouring Durham College's three championship teams from the fall semester. Unveiling new championship banners, the CCAA national championship men's soccer team, NCBC national championship baseball team, and OCAA provincial championship men's rugby team were all recognized for their incredible achievements. Next up for the Lords is their home finale on Friday, Feb. 14, which will be a crucial game for playoff positioning as they face the 11-1 Algonquin Thunder. Tip-off for the battle for first in the OCAA east will be at 6 p.m., with the game available to be streamed on OCAA LIVE. For those in attendance, their will also be a special post-game ceremony honouring the Lords graduating players.
  • Delivering another dominant performance in the paint, Kendra Oliver (Ajax, Ont.)  registered a game-high 18 points, pushing her double-digit outings to 13 on the year.
• In a physical outing for the 5'11 third-year guard, Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) added 16 points, shooting an impressive 5-for-6 from the floor, 4-for-4 from the charity stripe, and 2-for-3 from beyond the three-point arc.
• Judy Ta was the lone Colt to break double-digits, recording 11 points in the loss.
  • Kendra registered her second straight double-double, and tenth of the season, grabbing 14 rebounds, while adding two assists, four steals, and a block to her overall statline.
• 10 different Lords recorded a point in the win, including a strong performance off the bench from Jaime Gordon (Uxbridge, Ont.) who pulled down six rebounds, notched 3 assists and a steal, and eight total points.
