Hawks Soar to 3-1 Victory over Niagara

March 3, 2022 - The Niagara College Knights women's volleyball team played to a 1-3 loss to the nationally ranked (4th) Humber Hawks last night at the Welland Campus Centre. Set scores were 25-19,19-25,20-25,18-25).

Things looked good for the Knights in the first set as they took down the 6-1 Hawks 25-19 to go up 1-0. unfortunately for the blue and white, the victory was short lived as Humber showed why they were in the top five of the CCAA Rankings.

The Hawks came back in the second set, eventually going on a 5-0 run to put some distance between them and the home team. Humber took set two 25-19.

Humber jumped out to a big lead early in the third with a  9-0 run to take a commanding 10-point lead. The Knights would fight to keep things close but would fall short as the Hawks took a 2-1 set lead.

It was all Humber in the fourth and final set, as they closed down the Knights early on taking a 3-10 lead and not letting up.

Natasha Desjardins led the Knights with 11 kills. Desjardins recently surpassed 500 total career kills last weekend, earning her Athlete of the Week status for the Knights.

Humber improves to 6-1 while the Knights drop to 4-4.

Next up for the Knights will be there final regular season game at home when the visiting Redeemer Royals (2-4) roll into town. The 2022 OCAA regular season wraps up this weekend, with playoffs kicking off next week.
