HUSKIES VOLLEYBALL SPLIT WITH THE KNIGHTS

On Saturday October 29, the George Brown women and men's volleyball teams hosted the Fleming College Knights. The women's team would improve to 2-1 on the season, while the men would come up short to go to fall to 1-2 for the season.
  

HOW IT HAPPENED | WOMEN:  The Huskies entered this match after falling to Durham College 3-1 in George Brown's home opener. The team was looking to bounce back from that loss and defend home court.

From the opening serve the Huskies were in complete control over the Knights, who had no answer for Jaque Ronquillo (1st Year) and Taylor Grant (1st Year). The two standouts combined for 24 kills on 43 total attempts collecting 25 points for the Huskies on the way to victory. Brianne Lee (1st Year) had a game high 21 assists and six digs. Ashley Lau (4th Year) had eight digs, along with Bailey Pain (2nd Year) who had three blocks and five digs in the win. The Huskies would take the match in three straight sets 25-15, 25-15, 25-17. 

"We were happy to get the win today, and that all Huskies got time on the court.", said head coach Daphne Choi. "We learned a good lesson today about managing game tempo and committing to our plan regardless of who we play. I was particularly happy with the contributions from our middle blockers, as they were able to get important blocks that shifted momentum." 
 
UP NEXT: The Huskies are back in action again on Saturday November 5 at 1 pm as they host the Centennial Colts (2-1) who lost in their most recent match to Seneca in three straight sets. 

HOW IT HAPPENED | MEN: The Huskies entered this match after defeating the Durham Lords 3-1 in their home opener. The team was eager to defend home court. 

In a thrilling five set match, George Brown fell to the Fleming Knights 21-25, 25-17, 27-29, 25-23, 12-15.   
 
The Huskies were unrelenting in their five set showdown versus Fleming, refusing to give up even when the match seemed to be out of reach. The team dug deep and displayed a tremendous amount of resilience in the loss.  

David Kiswa (1st Year), David Fountain (2nd Year) and Arsam Talebi (3rd Year) had a combined 40 kills on 85 attempts scoring 47 points along with 27 digs for the Huskies. Arsalan Rhanama (1st Year) had a team high 25 assists . while Nicholas Vu (2nd Year) came up big with 10 digs in four sets played.  

"It was a tough loss and we are disappointed we couldn't finish the match the way we wanted.", said head coach Sam Schachter (2nd Season). "Our team is experiencing a lot of changes in some key positions, but we are optimistic that once we are able to adjust, we can make a strong push. We need to find some more consistency, but are showing moments of being a very talented and skilled team."
