No. 6-ranked Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball dropped a hard fought match to the No. 4-ranked Humber Hawks 3-1 (15-25, 21-25, 25-19, 24-26).

It was the first loss of the season for the Mountaineers after three consecutive wins to start their season.

Despite the loss, head coach Matthew Schnarr was not upset with how his team played.

"I thought we gave everything we had. We emptied out what was left in the tank," Schnarr said. "I'm proud of our fight and we gave ourselves a chance."

Schnarr highlighted the play of Sofia Spoljar (Hamilton, ON) and Kaelyn Emslie (St. Catharines, ON) for leading the charge, and added that Amanda Kuiper (Woodstock, ON) continues to have a strong season.

Spoljar, Irene Jaramillo Restrepo (Manizales, Colombia) and Julia Watson (Burlington, ON) each had seven kills, and Kuiper spread the ball around for 20 assists.

Through seven days the Mountaineers have played four games, and are looking forward to a much needed break until their next match.

"We're right there, we've just got to sharpen up a little bit," Schnarr said. "We're going to take the next couple days to regroup before our next match."

The Mountaineers return to action on Feb. 23 when they head to Redeemer University to play the Royals at 6 p.m.
