KINGSTON, Ont. - Opening their title defence on the road in Kingston, the Durham College men's rugby team defeated the St. Lawrence Vikings in the season opener 28-10 on Saturday afternoon.
The home team were first on the board as the Vikings took a 5-0 early in the contest.
Shortly after it was newcomer
Ayden Wannamaker-McLean (Stirling, Ont.) who answered back for the Lords, finding the try zone to even the game before
Ty Jacob (Courtice, Ont.) successfully kicked the convert to make it a 7-5 DC lead.
Jacob then added to the lead with a score of his own, along with another convert to enter the half with a 14-5 lead over the Vikings.
Following the break, St. Lawrence was able to take advantage of a turnover deep in Durham territory to score and make it 14-10.
DC's offence would not be stopped though as they added another 14 points in the second half courtesy a try from
Daniel Cooper (Uxbridge, Ont.) and a second try combined with two more converts from Jacob.
The Lords return to Thompson Rugby Park for their home opener against the visiting Algonquin Thunder on Sunday, Sept. 22. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
