WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL FALL IN FIVE SET THRILLER
Carina Brooks had a season-high 22 points but the Grizzlies fell 3-2 to the Canadore Panthers in North Bay on Saturday.
The Georgian Grizzlies women's volleyball team travelled to face the Canadore Panthers on Saturday in a big regular season game in North Bay.
It was also an incredibly tight game between the Grizzlies and Panthers.
Both teams traded set wins back-and-forth through the first four sets and the fifth set tie-break went into extra points. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies it was the Panthers who were narrowly able to pull off a 3-2 victory. Set scores were 25-22, 22-25, 25-15, 25-27, 21-19.
Carina Brooks (Caledon) had a season-high 22-point performance from 20 kills, one ace and one block while Carolyn Cooper (Mississauga) also had a season-high with 15 points from 11 kills and four aces.
Teammate Sophia Clement (Scarborough) also had an impressive game with team highs in assists (45) and digs (15) while also registering four points.
Georgian now has a regular season record of 7-4 and they sit in fourth place in the OCAA east division standings.
The Grizzlies will play their first home games of 2020 this week. First, they host the Seneca Sting this Wednesday, Jan. 22 with the women's game scheduled for 6 p.m. followed by the men's game at approximately 8 p.m. They will also host the Loyalist Lancers this coming Saturday, Jan. 25 with the women's game at 1 p.m. and the men's game following at 3 p.m.
