Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball found themselves on the winning side once again after defeating the St. Clair Saints 3-1 (24-26, 25-23, 25-23, 25-21).

The Mountaineers are off to a 5-0 start to begin the 2022-23 season and handed the Saints their first loss of the season.

Kelsey Kover, Mohawk head coach, gave credit to the opposing team who was playing their second match in as many days.

"We need to admit St. Clair is a good team, with a good coach, "Kovar said. "I'm not surprised they came out and played well, but we found a way to battle back and come together to win."

Lexie Zicari (Burlington, ON) led the Mountaineers with 17 kills and five aces. Rachel Vanderwal (Hamilton, ON) had herself a good match as well with 14 kills and three blocks.

Setter Yvonne Mann (Kitchener, ON) contributed 30 assists.

Kover explained what changed after Mohawk dropped the first set.

"I think we just improved our attitude," Kovar said. "We were not complacent and we were not OK with losing points so that made us improve our intensity and our attitude."

The Mountaineers will next host the Niagara Knights on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.
