Box Score 2 NORTH YORK, Ont. - Continuing their perfect start to the season, the Durham College women's softball team defeated the Seneca Sting in both games of a Wednesday night doubleheader in North York.
Durham's strong defensive play was complimented by an explosive offence which saw 8-of-9 batters record a hit in a 7-1 Game 1 victory, before taking complete control in a 17-1 five inning Game 2 win.
The Lords now return to Durham Field for their home opener this Saturday, Sept. 14 versus the Conestoga Condors. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
GAME 1
• With the bats warming up quickly it was
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) nailing a three-run home run in the first inning to spark the Lords offence on a spectacular night for the road team.
• Second-year catcher and power-hitter
Kaleigh MacIntyre (Guelph, Ont.) added three RBI on a 2-for-4 night in the batters box, registering a double and triple.
GAME 2
• First-year standout
Sydney Redick (Alvinston, Ont.) went 4-for-5 at the plate including smashing her second home run of the season in the third inning of the shortened second game. Redick finished the contest with six RBI and four runs.
• Both
Nicole Mancini (Toronto, Ont.) and
Madigan McGhee (Ajax, Ont.) had impressive nights with Mancini crossing the plate three times on a 4-for-5 night and McGhee adding four RBI.
GAME 1
•
Andrea Patrick (Whitby, Ont.) earned the win for the Lords allowing just three hits and one earned run, while striking out two in four innings of work.
• Fifth-year veteran
Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) appeared in relief, shutting out the Sting in three innings, adding four strikeouts.
• Seneca pitcher Chantal Gendron picked up the loss.
GAME 2
• Not only did she crush it at the plate, Redick also earned the win in the pitching circle for DC in Game 2, striking out 10 Sting batters in five innings, allowing only one earned run.
• Nicole Novacich was the losing pitcher for the Sting.
