OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's rugby team leapfrogged into first place following a Friday afternoon victory, defeating the visiting Algonquin Thunder 40-27 at Thompson Rugby Park.
The Lords avenged an earlier season defeat at the hands of the Thunder, convincingly taking the home contest. DC is now first place in the OCAA east division with a 4-1 record, now holding a tiebreaker over Algonquin who are also currently 4-1.
Durham received an exceptional performance from second row
Devon Parson (Caesarea, Ont.) who plowed his way through the Thunder defence to score three tries on the afternoon. Fellow interior player
Daniel Cooper (Ubridge, Ont.) also added a single marker, along with tries from
Xavier Benjamin (Whitby, Ont.) and
Hayden Parkins (Oshawa, Ont.). The Lords also received five successful converts courtesy
Ty Jacob (Courtice, Ont.).
The Lords remain at Thompson Rugby Park for at least another week as they get set for their regular season finale next Saturday, Oct. 19. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
