First doubleheader loss in 365 days

TORONTO, Ont. - The Durham College women's softball team fell in both games of a Sunday afternoon doubleheader versus the Humber Hawks in Toronto.

DC opened the soggy afternoon with a hard-fought 5-3 loss to the Hawks to mark their second consecutive loss of the season. The Lords then came out on the short end of a 1-0 decision, walking in the game-winning run in the sixth inning.

The last time Durham lost both games of an OCAA doubleheader was 365 days ago when they St. Clair Saints dropped them 2-1 and 8-5 on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018. They went on to win six in a row following the back-to-back losses last fall.

Durham now returns to Durham Field for two sets of home games, first welcoming the Fanshawe Falcons on Saturday, Sept. 21 before taking on the Saints on Sunday, Sept. 22. First pitch for both tilts are scheduled for 1 p.m.

• Humber left fielder Kate Kostuch made the biggest impact of the game, nailing a solo home run in the fifth inning to make it a 5-2 Hawks lead late.
GAME 2
• Producing just three hits in a defensive battle, veteran left fielder Caleigh Coels (Duncan, B.C.) was a standout for the Lords going 2-for-2 and picking up a walk.
• The Hawks were stifled just as much with just four total hits.

• Hawks pitcher Presley Buchanan picked up her third win of the season, pitching a complete game, allowing only three earned runs.
