OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's soccer team will head into OCAA postseason play coming off a big win over the Loyalist Lancers 6-1 on Wednesday night.
The win sets up a crossover match with the Humber Hawks on Sunday in Etobicoke at 2 p.m. It will be a tough test for the Lords as Humber finished in second place in the OCAA central region with a 7-1-2 record and are the 12th ranked team in the country.
Wednesday's match against Loyalist was tight in the first half as the Lords held a narrow 2-1 lead after 45 minutes. In the second half, Durham's offence would explode for four goals to pick up the win and finish the regular season with a 5-7-0 record.
Rachel Baumgaertner (Waterloo, Ont.) scored two goals for the Lords while
MacKenzie Barry (Ajax, Ont.),
Taylor MacIver (Barrie, Ont.),
Madison Smith (Bowmanville, Ont.) and
Nikki Colangelo (Whitby, Ont.) all had single goals.
Stephanie Young scored the Lancers lone goal on a penalty kick in the first half.
Durham enters their playoff match having won three of their last four games.
Durham's last appearance in the playoffs came back in 2014 when they were beat by the Cambrian Golden Shield in the crossover round.
