DC advance to Day 2 of OCAA Championship

OSHAWA, ON - The Durham College men's baseball team delivered in front of the home crowd at Kinsmen Stadium on Thursday afternoon, defeating the Fanshawe Falcons 6-4 in a quarter-final matchup to advance to the second day of the 2021 OCAA baseball championship.

Serving as host for the provincial tournament, DC took advantage of home turf to rally back from a 2-0 deficit after four innings of play, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the lead and the win. A three-run triple from OCAA rookie of the year Tyler Chong (Markham, ON) highlighted the fifth-inning outburst. Meanwhile, starting pitcher Jason Crouse (Oshawa, ON) did his part going the full seven innings, while striking out six Falcons batters. Crouse was named DC player of the game.

The Lords now match up with the No. 1 seed St. Clair Saints as the OCAA championship shifts to a double-elimination format following the one-and-done quarter-final games. First pitch for DC is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., with all the OCAA action being streamed on OCAA LIVE.

• Chong's three RBI triple in the fifth inning led the way for the Lords as he was one of seven DC batters to pick up a hit in the win.
• Veteran first base Palmer Cruickshank (Oshawa, ON) was the lone Lord batter to pick up multiple hits, finishing the quarter-final contest 2-for-3 with an RBI.
• Falcons player of the game Brad Verhoeven went 2-for-4, with both his hits being triples. He added one run and one RBI.
  • As mentioned, Crouse delivered a complete game in the win, going seven innings with just one walk, seven hits, and two earned runs, along with the six strikeouts.
• Falcons starting pitcher Noah Campagnolo was impressive through the opening four innings, holding DC scoreless, but was charged with all five runs in the fifth. Campagnolo finished with four innings pitched and five earned runs on eight total hits.
  Overall Record: 9-10 (W-L)
Conference Record: 7-7
