Knights Make it a 6-0 November with Win Over Cambrian Sunday

Story by Niagara College Communication Student Collin Hannigan

November 27, 2022...WELLAND  - The Niagara Knights Women's Volleyball team headed into their game against Cambrian Golden Shield on a five game winning streak. The Knights started off the first set sluggish, but eventually found their rythem to sweep the Golden Shield and extend their win streak to six games. The set scores were 25-21, 25-18, 25-16.

When asked what the key to success has been, head coach Tommy Sloan stated "it's been a bunch of different things. We have won different ways in all six matches. With a bunch of different types of opponents, some days we needed to rely on our left side, relying on our serve to get us through. However today was all about ball control we played really good defense. It was really nice, usually you don't go on that long of a win streak unless you find different ways to, we and we have been able to do that."

During the game, the ladies found themselves falling short in the first set, but, as Sloan stated, it was all about their ball control and they were eventually able to find themselves in control which led them to come back and take the first set. The Knights also found success from the service line, with setter Montanna Taylor recording five aces.

"She is our catalyst, our setter and she probably has the best serves in the conference if not in the country. We work with her to be a leader and to control the emotion of the entire court and she has the power to do that. When she is showing positive energy the rest of our team feeds off that."

Taylor played a big role to help her team take home their sixth straight win and remain undefeated through the month of November. The Knights will look to keep their win streak alive heading into the Christmas break with their final game of the term coming next Saturday December 3rd when they travel to St. Clair (6-2).
