Box Score TORONTO, Ont. - The Durham College men's soccer team ended their season securing a fifth place finish at the OCAA championship after defeating the UTM Eagles in an 11-round shootout on Saturday morning.
In a game which featured four lead changes, Durham striker
Sheldon Brown (Whitby, Ont.) opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game.
Just before the half Eagles forward Eric Halar scored an equalizer, sending the teams into the break 1-1.
UTM was quick to find the back of the net in the second half as Jaimin Rehal scored ten minutes in from nearly 40 yards out to give the Eagles the 2-1 advantage.
Scoring from then on came fast and furious as the Lords tallied back-to-back goals off the feet of
Dreyon McKenzie (Ajax, Ont.) and
Quinn Detlor (Whitby, Ont.) to take the lead back.
However, just two minutes later Halar netted his second goal of the day to once again draw even.
No more goals would be scored in regulation or in 30 minutes of extra time forcing the match to the deciding shootout.
Lords keeper
Kristien Bissonette (Pickering, Ont.) opened the penalty kick round with a save, but UTM goalkeeper Aaron Peters also made a stop to require extra shooters. In the 11th round Bissonette and Peters were each required to step to the spot, with Bissonette serving as the hero of the game, both scoring the game-winning goal and making the game-winning stop.
Overall Record: 10-3-4
Conference Record: 8-0-4
