Men’s Basketball Come out on Short End of 2OT Thriller

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team were involved in a great basketball game at the SportsPlex Sunday afternoon but came out on the short end and lost 127-125 in double overtime to Mohawk College (Hamilton).  This was the first loss in the regular season for the Saints and drops their OCAA West Division record to 3-1.

In a contest that saw 13 ties and 14 lead changes, St. Clair was able to secure control in the early stages with a slim but high scoring first quarter advantage of 30-25.  The Saints had their largest lead of the game at 11 points in the second quarter and entered halftime up 55-46.  Mohawk turned on the heat putting up 31 points in the third quarter while shooting 55%, but St. Clair nearly matched them with 29 of their own to still hold an 84-77 lead entering the fourth.

However, Mohawk's hot shooting maintained in the fourth quarter and split a pair of free throws in the final minute forced overtime with a 106-106 deadlock.  The first overtime did not decide a winner and Mohawk used a 3-point make with under a minute to play to knot the game at 116-116.  In the final frame the Saints were able to go ahead by 6-points but could not hold on down the stretch.  Mohawk secured two separate offensive rebounds after failed trips to the free throw line which proved to be the decisive blow.

St. Clair's Shakael Pryce (Pickering, ON) scored a game high 34 points adding 5 rebounds and 7 assists in a losing cause.  Terence Williams (Windsor, ON) recorded a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds while teammate Darnelle Peddie (Pickering, ON) stepped up his role with 22 points off the bench.  Jalen Harmon (Ypsilanti, MI) fell a rebound short of double-double with 14 points and 9 boards for St. Clair.  Hanani Ujullu (Kitchener, ON) chipped in with 12 points for the Saints and Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON) also reached double figures with 10 points.

St. Clair outscored Mohawk in the paint by a margin of 64-32 but the visitors were much better from distance making 41% (19-for-46) which was a difference maker.

Mohawk's Daniel Graham (Hamilton, ON) scored 29 points and set up his teammates with 7 assists in the win.

St. Clair next goes on the road with OCAA West Division games at Humber College (Etobicoke) on Saturday and Sheridan College (Brampton) on Sunday.
