LANCERS FALL IN FINAL HOME SHOWING

LANCERS FALL IN FINAL HOME SHOWING

The Lancers put up a great effort but were unable to secure a win in their final game of the season against the Algonquin Thunder at home on Saturday.

Despite falling in 3 sets, the Lancers battled tough against the 2nd place Thunder.  With set scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-21 in favour of the Thunder, the Lancers played consistent and aggressive volleyball that showed off the team's incredible improvement over the course of the season.

Standout middle Ashley MacDonald was nearly unstoppable in the front row. Standing at 5'10", MacDonald did tremendous job of slowing down the Thunders' offense with good touches on the block that allowed her team to set up on defence & cycle the ball into an aggressive attack. With 12 kills of her own and two stuff blocks, MacDonald was the game high scorer with 14 total points.

MacDonald, along with teammates Paula Bailey and Rachel Streekstra were recognized as graduating athletes in a pre game presentation. From a statistics standpoint, the three senior players combined for 22 points on the match while the knowledge they share with teammates, their enthusiasm and leadership is immeasurable and will be greatly missed in the 2020/2021 season.

With the regular season wrapped up, the Lancers move into playoffs to try to fight their their way into the 2020 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championships at Canadore College. To get there, the Lancers need to come out on top of a winner-takes-all crossover game that takes place on Saturday February 22nd.
