WOMEN'S RUGBY 7'S TOURNAMENT 1 RECAP

The Wolves women's rugby 7's team travelled down to Toronto for the first tournament of the 2022 season.  It was the first time in two years that Algonquin was represented in OCAA Rugby 7's action, and these players did not disappoint earning a 3-2-1 record. 

 

GAME ONE VS HUMBER (T, 14-14)

Coach Dan Gauthier's squad kicked off the tournament and the OCAA season in the very 1st game of the weekend at 9:00 AM against the host Humber Hawks.  The teams would battle to a 14-14 Tie.

GAME 2 VS ST. LAWRENCE (27-0 L)

After an exciting first game, the Wolves would take on a tough St. Lawrence team in game 2 at 11:00 AM.  Unfortunately the Surge would prove to be too much for the Wolves, who eventually lost 27-0. The loss would run the teams record to 0-1-1 on the day. 

 

GAME 3 VS LOYALIST (28-12 W) 

Still looking for their first win, the Wolves would take on the Loyalist Lancers in game #3 at 1:00 PM.  After dropping their 1st game of the season in game 2, the team would bounce back and improve their record to 1-1-1 with a 28-12 win over the Lancers.

GAME 4 VS SENECA (12-10 W)

After 3 tough games, the team would hit the field for their last match of the day against the Seneca Sting at 3:30 PM.  The Wolves would carry the momentum from the previous game and come away with a 12-10 win.  The win would improve their record to 2-1-1 after day 1.

GAME 5 VS FLEMING (12-10 W)

After 4 tough games on Saturday, the Wolves had two more games to play before heading home to Ottawa.  The team would take on the Fleming Knights at 11:00 AM.  Fleming would enter the day with a 3-1 record, sitting just ahead of the Wolves in the standings.  The team would come away with a 12-10 win, moving them ahead of the Knights for the time being.

GAME 6 VS DURHAM (46-0 L) 

In their final game of the tournament, the Wolves were matched up against the undefeated Durham Lords at 1:30 PM.  The Lords rolled through their competition all weekend long, and this game was no different.  The loss dropped the Wolves record to 3-2-1. 


Overall it was a successful weekend for the team earning them the 4th seed in the standings. 

 

WHAT'S NEXT? 

The squad will have a couple weeks to prepare before returning to action on the October 1st and 2nd weekend down in Oshawa.
