No. 6 Lords return to the win column

OSHAWA, Ont. - The No. 6 nationally ranked Durham College men's volleyball team knocked off the visiting Fleming Knights in straight sets on Thursday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. Set scores were 25-22, 25-16, 25-17.

After suffering their first loss of the season, the Lords returned to the win column with the dominant victory lifting their overall record to 14-1. Holding steady in first place in the OCAA east with the impressive record, DC have now swept the season series with the opponents from Peterborough and move into the home stretch with just three regular season matches remaining. After a competitive first set, the Lords took control of the match outscoring Fleming 41-24 in kills and 7-2 in service aces when all was said and done.

The Lords now hit the road traveling to Belleville to challenge the Loyalist Lancers on Wednesday, Feb. 5. First serve for the away game is scheduled for 8 p.m. with the match being streamed on OCAA LIVE.
  • DC saw six players record seven or more points in the win, led by 11 points apiece from first-year outside hitter Rouzbeh Rahnavard (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and fifth-year setter Liam Gray (Barrie, Ont.). Rahnavard finished the night with 10 kills and one ace, while Gray scored four kills, four aces, and three blocks.
• Middles Tristan Swinden (Whitby, Ont.) and James Hirt (Scarborough, Ont.), along with veteran outside hitter Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) all adde nine points each on the night.
• The Knights were paced by a game-high 14 points from Joel Howes, who notched seven kills, one ace, and an impressive six blocks.
  • In addition to his own offensive output, Gray added 29 assists from his setter position.
• Gray, Rahnavard, and libero Lucas Pichl (Cobourg, Ont.) all tallied a team-high eight digs defensively for the Lords.
• Jordan Ross guided the Thunder offence with 20 assists, while Bayley Brown recorded a game-high 14 digs.
