BARRIE, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team fell 3-0 to the Georgian Grizzlies Thursday night in their 2017-18 season opener.
 
The Lords would hold an early advantage in the first set but were unable to close it out as Georgian clawed back to take it 25-22. That seemed to be the theme all night for the Lords as the Grizzlies won the next two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-17 to take the opening match of the year.
 
Harrison Wood (Uxbridge, Ont.) would lead the Lords attack with 10 kills on 23 attempts, but was only able to get one block in the loss. Erik Janssen (Hampton, Ont.) had seven kills while Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) had four.

Returning to the setter position this season, Rory Langley (Uxbridge, Ont.) had 20 assists to go along with three kills, two aces and two blocks.
 
Durham will now look ahead to their home opener on Sunday, Oct. 29 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. First serve is 3 p.m.
 
During the matches the Lords will be collecting funds in support of Cheryl Dustin, who is currently undergoing breast cancer treatment. They will also be wearing pink shirts, alongside their opponents to raise awareness about breast cancer.
