Lords extend win streak to three by defeating Seneca

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team extended their win streak to three games as the Lords defeated the Seneca Sting 3-1 (30-28, 25-22, 21-25, 25-16) on home court.

After starting the 2017-18 OCAA regular season with two losses, the Lords had two consecutive three-set victories over Loyalist and Fleming.

The opening set on Thursday against Seneca was a long one, but Durham came out on top 30-28, needing five extra points to earn the victory.

Durham picked up another win in the second set by a 25-22 score, much in part due to an outstanding nine kills through two sets from Harrison Wood (Uxbridge, Ont.).

The Lords' streak of straight set victories came to an end after Seneca battled hard in the third set to keep themselves in the game following a 25-21 win. Durham didn't get down on themselves as they finished the game off in four sets with a 25-16 win.

Avinash Juvarajan was the stand out player for the Sting with 18 kills, most of which came from Richard Ngo who had 30 assists in the game.

Harrison Wood (Uxbridge, Ont.) was efficient at the net, earning 15 kills on 22 attempts (.636 per cent), while Erik Janssen (Hampton, Ont.) earned 17 kills on 29 total attempts.

Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) had a career-high 10 kills, topping his previous high of seven from two matches this year. He also had a career-high 13 points. Rory Langley (Uxbridge, Ont.) finished with a remarkable 46 assists, which was six short of his career high of 52 set on January 13, 2016 against the Loyalist Lancers in a 3-1 victory.

Durham College now heads to Ottawa for a two-game road trip next weekend against Algonquin and La Cité before returning home on Tuesday, Nov. 28 to host the George Brown Huskies.
