HUSKIES COME UP SHORT AGAINST STING, STILL HOLD 2nd IN EAST

Huskies #9 yonis jama heads ball towards goalkeeper

George Brown Men's Soccer (6-2-1) lost 3-2 to the undefeated Seneca Sting (8-0) on Saturday October 8, 2022 at Esther Shiner Stadium. Despite the tough loss, the Huskies still hold 2nd place in the East heading into their final home game of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Coming off a strong road victory over the Fleming Knights, the Huskies were looking to carry that momentum into this highly anticipated match. The Sting got out to an early 2-0 lead within the first 20 minutes of the game, courtesy of Rashad Griffith on assists by Joshua Alegria. In stoppage time of the first half, Huskies' Yonis Jama (3rd Year) headed home a perfectly timed cross off the foot of Mashhood Rehman (3rd Year) to put the Huskies on the board heading into halftime. The Sting would add to their tally in the 64th minute putting the Huskies down by two.

After Seneca failed to clear a free kick, Huskies' Mashhood Rehman (3rd Year) would add another assist to his stat line after a well-placed header pass to an open Jason Alvarado (3rd Year) in the 84th minute. The Huskies offense would continue to attack the Sting and had a few more shots on target as the remaining time wore on, but Seneca's goalkeeper Anthony Gurrieri was up to the challenge and secured his team the 3-2 road win.

UP NEXT: George Brown closes out the season at home on Sunday October 16th when they host the Sault College Cougars at Esther Shiner Stadium at 3pm. The last time these two teams squared off, the Huskies won on the road 7-0. Can't make the game in person? Catch us on our Livestream Channel!
