The No. 13-ranked Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball team took down No. 7-ranked St. Clair Saints in a four set match (18-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-23) to begin the season 2-0.

"Today's performance was a battle of attrition for us," said head coach Matthew Schnarr. "Second game on a long road trip and we found a way to compete and get the job done. I'm proud of how our team stuck together."

Schnarr had a lot of good things to say about his team after their performance against the Saints.

"Our right side Julia Watson (Burlington, ON) carried the offensive load with 17 kills and setter Amanda Kuiper (Woodstock, ON) guided the offense with solid distribution," Schnarr said.

Kuiper put up 36 assists and with two aces in the match the fifth-year also moved into second on the OCAA all-time career list for aces with 202.

Libero duo Emily MacEachern (Thornhill, ON) and Anika Gatto (Vancouver, BC) provided solid reception and defence.

Schnarr also highlighted that the Mountaineers will continue working on playing as a team going into their next match.

The Mountaineers next play on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. in Niagara against the Knights.
