Lords lay claim to OCAA silver

LONDON, Ont. - Following a four year reign at the top of the OCAA, the Durham Lords women's softball team laid claim to silver a the 2019 OCAA softball championship, hosted this weekend at Fanshawe College.

DC have now extended their OCAA medal streak to six conesuctive seasons.

In a repeat of Day 1, the Lords opened the second day of competition with a victory over the third seeded St. Clair Saints. On eight hits, DC were able to win the tightly contested matchup 3-2.

The Lords then moved on to challenge the regular season champion Humber Hawks in the gold medal game. Another close match during an exciting weekend of competition, the Lords were able to tie the match 2-2  in the seventh inning, but surrendered the game-winning run on a single in the extra frame.

After being recognized as OCAA regular season all-stars at the start of the tournament, both  Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) and Alexis Pereira (Newmarket, Ont.) were named OCAA championship all-stars as well.
  GAME 1
• Alanna Stanoev (Whitby, Ont.), Courtney McKellar (Alvinston, Ont.), and Madigan McGhee (Ajax, Ont.) each recorded RBI in the win, with McGhee's sixth inning single going down as the game-winning run.
GAME 2
• With a timely double to left field, second-year cather Kaleigh MacIntyre (Guelph, Ont.) drove in the two Lords RBI to tie the game and force extra innings.
• Both Pereira and McKellar also recorded two hits apiece for DC.
• Jessica MacPherson drove in the game-winning run for the Hawks in the eighth inning to seal the gold medal victory.
  GAME 1
• Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) earned the win for DC, going 6.2 innings, allowing eight hits and three earned runs.
• Black appeared in relief to secure the final out of the game and clinch a spot for the Lords in the gold medal contest.
• Saints pitcher Olivia Elliott picked up the loss.
GAME 2
• Black pitched all 7.2 innings for the Lords, striking out an outstanding 12 Humber batters, while giving up just one earned run in the loss.
• The Hawks utilized three pitchers in the gold medal match with Presly Buchanan earning the win.
  Overall Record: 25-12
Conference Record: 19-5
