Men’s Basketball Run Away from Niagara

Welland, ON – The #14 nationally ranked St. Clair College Men's Basketball team ran their record to 5-1 with a lopsided 98-70 win over Niagara College in Welland Saturday afternoon.  Niagara (3-3) was the 6th ranked team in the province while the Saints entered as the #2 team in the OCAA.

St. Clair took control of this contest early and ended the first quarter ahead 23-15.  But some scorching hot shooting from the field (72%) in the second frame saw the Saints score 30 points which included 4 of 4 from beyond the 3-point arc resulting in a comfortable 53-32 halftime advantage.  Niagara never threatened in the second half allowing St. Clair to spread minutes to their reserves with each player dressed recording points.

The Saints had an edge in most statistical categories but most notably shot 54% in the contest while holding Niagara to 35% from the field.  St. Clair outrebounded Niagara 41-29 and scored more points in the paint (48-28) and off the bench (44-18).

Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough, ON) continued his strong play for St. Clair recording a game high 18 points to go with 4 rebounds and a blocked shot. Jalen Harmon (Ypsilanti, MI) scored 17 points adding 4 rebounds with David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, Michigan) dropping 15 points for the Saints.  Alberto Lopez (Barrie, ON) came off the bench to score 14 points for St. Clair and just missed a double-double with 9 rebounds.  Jacob Macalalad (Winnipeg, MB) chipped in with 12 points off the bench also for the Saints.

Niagara's Delroy Grandison (Nassau, Bahamas) had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

The Saints will be back in action on Sunday at Conestoga College (Kitchener) tipping at 3:00pm.
