Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Durham College Sports Information

Lords continue to roll with fourth straight win

OSHAWA, Ont. - A new year has the Durham Lords women's basketball team looking like true contenders, as they cruised to a 69-52 victory on Friday night over the St. Lawrence Vikings.

In a dominating performance, the Lords resembled the team that rolled their way to a 3-1 record through October, rather than the one that hobbled 1-3 through November. Durham has now won four straight, with their last loss taking place back on November 28.

The Vikings stormed out of the gate with an early first quarter lead, but the Lords responded by asserting themselves in the paint and increasing possession time, breaking the game open in the second quarter with a 13-0 run of their own. Durham's lead never slipped below double digits the rest of the way.

With the win, the Lords avenge their 83-77 loss at the hands of the Vikings on Oct. 19, and stake claim to third place in the OCAA east division with an 8-4 record.

Next on the schedule for Durham is a trip to Belleville to square off with the Loyalist Lancers. The Lords can sweep the season series with a victory in the Tuesday, Jan. 29 matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm.
Maddie Dender (Ajax, Ont) emerged off the bench with a game-saving performance, carrying the Lords offence with a team-high 15 points.
• Durham's offence was rounded out by Keisha Arthurworrey (Oshawa, Ont) and Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont), providing 13 and 10 points respectively
• St. Lawrence's Rachel Steer racked up a game-high 17 points
  • Arthurworrey achieved the double-double by adding 12 rebounds to go with her 13 points on the evening.
• The Lords Emily Chamberlain (Kingston, Ont) was strong in the paint, registering 11 rebounds, nine of them on the defensive glass.
• Kylie Moyer of the Vikings notched a team-high 12 rebounds.
  Overall Record: 13-7
Conference Record: 8-4

Next game: Tuesday, Jan. 29 @ Loyalist Lancers • 6 p.m. - Belleville, Ont.
