Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer will be guaranteed a home playoff game following a 1-0 win over the Sheridan Bruins.

The victory moved the Mountaineers into the second seed in the OCAA west division with one remaining game.

Mohawk's lone goal was scored by first-year Alyssa Glasbergen (Burlington, ON), who fired a powerful shot from outside the box in the 86th minute.

Although the first half was a little bumpy and neither team had clear advantage, the Mountaineers were able to get off seven shots.

"The game had a sloppy first half," said Mohawk head coach Paul Giannini.  "Sheridan fights hard, so they made it difficult for us to play pretty soccer, but we kept the effort going and got the result we wanted."

It was a dominating second half from the Mountaineers, who controlled possession and had a handful of scoring opportunities.

Mohawk goalkeeper Samantha DeHaan (Smithville, ON) was not tested too much by the Bruins, but responded when necessary, by saving two clear shots on goal.

With the win, the Mountaineers also maintained their undefeated record with a 4-0-5 record.

"We are tight, and we keep the ball out of the net," Giannini said. "We haven't received many goals against throughout the season and I'm pretty sure that will scare anybody who is playing against us."

The 2022 season concludes on Oct. 15 when Mohawk travels to play the Fanshawe Falcons for a 1 p.m. kick-off.

Playoff schedule will be released at a future date.
