St. Clair Women's Soccer Earn Draw on Opening Night

Windsor, ON (Sept 17, 2021) The St. Clair women's soccer team earned a hard fought 1-1 draw against the Fanshawe Falcons on Friday night at Acumen Stadium at the new Sportspark in front of a great crowd. It was the first official OCAA regular season game ever played at the new facility and also the first OCAA game since COVID 19 shut down OCAA play in mid March 2019.

The Saints got off to a tough start with Fanshawe's Kayla McQueen scoring in the 2nd minute of play. The Saints settled down after about the 10 minute mark and played much better throughout the rest of the game.

St. Clair evened things up in the 76th minute on a great penalty kick by Jaclyn French (Windsor; FJ Brennan) who buried the ball in the top right corner. Emma Riccardi (LaSalle; Sandwich) made a great play to draw the penalty in the box.

Fanshawe had a chance to win the game in injury time on a penalty kick but the attempt went over the net.

The player of the game for St. Clair was 4th year Keeper Athena Dimario Done (Windsor; St. Joseph's) who had to make some key saves throughout the match.  Dimario Done ended the match with 11 saves with a couple of those being high end scoring chances. Fanshawe had 18 shot attempts compared to 13 for the Saints.

The Saints are next in action on Tuesday, September 21 when they travel to Sarnia to take on the Lambton Lions at 5 pm.
