HUSKIES MEN'S BASKETBALL ON FIVE GAME WIN STREAK

HUSKIES MEN'S BASKETBALL ON FIVE GAME WIN STREAK

After successfully defending home court last weekend during their home-and-home stand, the George Brown men's basketball team (6-1) went 2-0 on their road trip to Belleville (Nov 18) and Kingston (Nov 19) Ontario.

HOW IT HAPPENED - LOY: On Friday November 18 the Huskies were hosted by the Loyalist Lancers (4-2) who were entering this contest after losing to the Durham Lords the week before.

The Huskies jumped out to an early 27-17 lead in the first quarter and led for most of the game. The Lancers did manage to close the deficit to as close as seven points entering the third quarter, trailing 77-70. The Pack's ferocious offense would come alive in the fourth frame, as they outscored the Lancers 25-8 to take the game by a final score of 102-78.

As a team, the Huskies held a 52.1% field goal percentage in the host's house, along with a deep bench who outscored the Lancers 43-21. The Huskies were also efficient from the charity stripe, going 19-24 (79.2%) and also outdid the Lancers on the assist line at 16-10.

Chris Fields (5th Year) led the Huskies with 23 points going 9-14 from the field, snatching five steals and collecting four assists. Derrick Taylor (2nd Year) collected another double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, which Caldre Campbell (4th Year) and Jacob Masters (2nd Year) also added 15 points each in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED - SLC: Picking up right where they left off the night before, the Huskies came out on Saturday afternoon (Nov 19) against the St. Lawrence Surge jumping out to a 21-15 lead in the first quarter. George Brown would get outscored in the second frame allowing the Surge to close to within two points at the half, 40-38. But just like their previous game, the Huskies offense came alive in the second half of the ball game. They outscored the Lancers 45-22 in second half to take their fifth consecutive win by final a score of 85-60.

Leading the way with 17 points going 7-12 from the field was Jacob Masters (2nd Year). Jeremiah Brown (4th Year), Caldre Campbell (4th Year) and Derrick Taylor (2nd Year) all added 11 points to the winning effort. DM Betoukoumessou (4th Year) also put up 10 points while grabbing seven rebounds.

The Huskies have shown great depth so far this season with various players scoring in double figures in a number of games, which proved to be a difference-maker again on Saturday. "It was a good win and a good team effort having five guys score in double figures against St. Lawrence.", commented Head Coach Jason Dawkins. "We held both teams to less than 10 points in the fourth quarter. We are still a work in progress but trending in the right direction."

UP NEXT: The Huskies host the Centennial Colts (4-3) on Friday November 25 at the Casa Loma Athletic Centre at 8 pm. The Colts are coming off a loss at the hands of the Lancers 92-88. If you can't make the game in person, watch all the action live on our Huskies Livestream Channel!
