Women's basketball grind out home win versus Sting

OSHAWA, Ont. - Finishing their first semester of action on home court at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre, the Durham College women's basketball team knocked off the visiting Seneca Sting 58-46 on Friday night.

The Lords conclude their fall semester in the top half of the standings, going 6-2 through the first eight games of the 2019-20 campaign. On the night Durham was in tough against a game opponent in the Sting. Both teams traded shots with DC limiting Seneca to just 21 percent from the floor, while the Sting answered back defensively by recording 16 steals and 18 points off of turnovers. The difference however came down low where the Lords doubled up the Sting 32-16 in points in the paint.
 
Prior to the tip-off the Lords also honoured head coach Heather Lafontaine who recently recorded her 100th career win as head coach. Guiding the team in her seventh season, Lafontaine's overall record now stands at 102-90, while her conference mark is now 66-40.
 
Following the winter break the Lords will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 14 when they welcome the Loyalist Lancers to the CRWC to begin the second half of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the game once again being streamed on OCAA LIVE.

• Andrea Zulich (Sudbury, Ont.) chipped in eight points for the Lords, while Rusheda Gibbs (Winnipeg, Man.) added seven off the bench
• Both Tiffany McNeil and Taesia Pinnock led the Sting with 12 points apiece.
  • In addition to her scoring output, Oliver was also a force on the glass grabbing 18 total rebounds for the double-double, nine offensive and nine defensive.
• Zulich also broke double-digit rebounds with 10 on the night, adding four assists, three steals, and a block to round out her strong overall performance.
• McNeil and Pinnock also had good rebounding nights bringing down 11 and 14 respectively, while McNeil also nabbed a game-high eight steals.
