No. 8 Women's Basketball Hangs on to Beat Lambton, 67-62

SARNIA — No. 8 Humber women's basketball picked up their fifteenth win on the season, defeating the Lambton Lions (9-7, 5th West), 67-62, Saturday afternoon.

Miea Campbell-Johnson was huge for Humber in the win, as she recorded her third double-double of the season coming off 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Humber established their dominance on the defensive end in the first half, holding Lambton to just 8-of-31 (25.8 percent) shooting from the field on way to 21-points. On the offensive end, Humber's fast-paced attack gave the Lions fits, as they finished with 35-point in the half on the way to a double-digit lead going into the break.

The third quarter was one to forget for the Hawks, as they struggled mightily on the offensive end going 3-of-18 (16.7 percent) from the floor. The drought on offence allowed Lambton to work their way back into the game, as they outscored Humber by 14 in the quarter, tying things up heading into the fourth quarter.

The Hawks quickly fell behind to begin the fourth as the Lions opened the quarter up with a three-pointer. Humber was able to answer back, as they were able to make it a two-possession game midway through the quarter. That lead held up until the final minute of the game as a pair of Lambton free throws made it a three-point game. Humber was able to force the Lions into a turnover on the following possession giving them the ball with just 4.4 seconds left. Felicia Velasquez iced the game at the line as Humber took this one by a score of 67-62.

Two other Humber players joined Campbell-Johnson with double figures on the game as, Jahnae Gyles finished with a game-high 22 points, while Ivana Twumasi finished with 17 points on the afternoon.
