The Georgian Grizzlies women's volleyball team played their home opener of the 2017/18 OCAA regular season on Thursday night when they hosted the rival Durham Lords at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
The game went the distance thanks to a resilient effort from the Grizzlies.
Georgian battled right to the end of a close five set match that could of went either way before falling 3-2 (25-20, 14-25, 27-25, 17-25, 15-13) to the Lords.
Ashley Mavreas (Barrie) led the Grizzlies with 13 points while also posting 13 digs. Alandria Czerkas (Sudbury) had a strong game with seven kills, three aces and two blocks. Amber Maw (Huntsville) led Georgian with 19 digs.
The Grizzlies will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 28 when they host the Canadore Panthers at 1 p.m. at the Georgian Athletic Centre. Tickets are available at the door for $5.
