SCARBOROUGH, Ont. - Hosting the Conestoga Condors at Centennial College for their OCAA crossover playoff match, the Durham Lords women's basketball team secured their spot at the provincial championship with a 63-48 win on Saturday afternoon.
Durham will make their fourth consecutive appearance at the OCAA championship, having most recently reached the final four at last year's showcase event. DC entered the playoff round as the third seed from the OCAA east after finishing the regular season with a 13-3 record. They matched up with the Condors who were sixth in the west after going 9-9 in the regular season. On the afternoon, the Lords defence was once again put on display as they held Conestoga under 50 points, marking the ninth time DC has achieved the feat this season. The Lords were able to force the Condors into 25 turnovers in the game to just 13 for DC, while outscoring Conestoga in both second chance points (12-5) and points off turnovers (18-2).
The quarter-final round will be a tall task for the Lords as they match up with the No. 4 nationally ranked Fanshawe Falcons in the opening round of the championship. Fanshawe finished second in the OCAA west division with a 17-1 record, winning their last 15 consecutive games. The quarter-final game is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 6 in Windsor.
