Lords split home opener versus Condors

OSHAWA, Ont. - Following a perfect 6-0 start to the 2019 season, the Durham College women's softball team suffered their first loss following a doubleheader split versus the visiting Conestoga Condors at Durham Field on Saturday afternoon.

Both contests were tight low-scoring affairs with the Lords picking up a Game 1 4-3 walk-off victory courtesy the bat of third-year veteran Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.). However, the Condors rebounded in Game 2 recording the game-winning run from a Lord error in the seventh inning to knock off the four-time defending champions 3-2.

Following the hard-fought home opening doubleheader, the Lords hit the road immediately as they travel down the 401 to challenge another tough opponent in the Humber Hawks. The Sunday afternoon doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. with the Hawks streaming the contest on OCAA LIVE.
  GAME 1
• Glendinning knocked in the game-winning run with a seventh inning walk-off single following a 3-for-3 day at the plate.
Nicole Mancini (Toronto, Ont.), Sydney Redick (Alvinston, Ont.), and Caleigh Coels (Duncan, B.C. each recorded RBI in the close Game 1 outing.
GAME 2
• A much tougher go of it in Game 2, a Madigan McGhee (Ajax, Ont.) single in the first and Mancini triple in the fourth produced both Lords runs.
• Conestoga lead off hitter Cassey Leader was impressive with a 3-for-4 performance in Game 2, while Emily Lush knocked in the game-winning run in the seventh.
  GAME 1
• Serving as hero at the plate, Glendinning also produced in the pitching circle going a complete seven innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits, while striking out four.
• Condors pitcher Brooklyn Billings picked up the loss.
GAME 2
• 2018 OCAA pitcher of the year Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) went the complete seven innings, allowing just one earned run on nine hits, while striking out three.
• Much like Glendinning in the game before her, the winning pitcher was the hero at the plate and on the mound as Lush went seven complete innings, giving up two earned runs and nine hits in the Conestoga victory.
  Overall Record: 10-2
Conference Record: 7-1

Next Game: Sunday, Sept. 15 @ Humber Hawks (1/3 p.m. - Toronto, Ont.)
