Fanshawe Opens Season With Statement Win Over Conestoga

(London, Ontario) – After nearly a two-year wait, the Fanshawe Falcons Men's Basketball team took the court on Wednesday evening at the Glenn Johnston Athletics Centre. The Falcons (1-0) defeated the Conestoga Condors (0-1) by a score of 115-70.

 

The Falcons came out flying in the first quarter, jumping out to a 17-0 lead with a steal and layup from Aldin Malkic (London, ON) and back-to-back triples from Adrian Stevens (Toronto, ON) and Dante Richards (Oakville, ON). Fanshawe continued to dominate the Condors with a Blake Roy (Springfield, ON) put back and an alley-oop from Richards to Edge Capuno (Winnipeg, MB). After the first quarter, the home team led 40-10. Fanshawe continued their strong play through the second frame, getting multiple stops with excellent team defense. As a team, the Falcons shot an incredible 72% from long range and 60% from the field. At half time, the red and white were up by a commanding score of 70-22.

 

Fanshawe continued their up-tempo play in the third frame, with Aidan Whalen (Cambridge, ON) scoring a 3-pointer in transition. Stevens then added a pair of solid layups. Going into the final quarter the score was 89-35 for Fanshawe. Ali Traore (Toronto, ON) had a strong drive to the rim, followed by a mid-range jumper from Capuno to continue the home team's strong offensive play. Despite Conestoga's best efforts, the Falcons would go on to win by a final score of 115-70.

 

Stevens had an impressive shooting night with 26 points, including 4/5 from long range, and added 11 rebounds. Malkic also had a double-double on the night with 19 points and 12 boards. Whalen and Richards recorded 24 and 19 points respectively.
