Baseball Holds On to Beat St. Clair, 3-2

ETOBICOKE – Humber baseball (7-2, 2nd OCAA) beat St. Clair (4-3, 3rd OCAA) Saturday afternoon at Connorvale Park, 3-2. The victory gives the Hawks the season series win, concluding its regular season meeting with the Saints.

St. Clair opened the scoring in the first, taking a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly.

The defending champions responded in the home half, scoring three runs off St. Clair ace Luis Barrios. Liam Sutherland got Humber on the board, scoring Stephen Narhabeki on an RBI groundout. Sam Lebel scored the second run for the Hawks on a Dennis Dei Banning fielder's choice. Dei Banning went on to steal third base and scored on a wild pitch.

Fifth-year veteran Matt Stoddart got the nod for Humber, throwing 5.2 innings, surrendering two runs on five hits.

With two on and two out in the sixth, Riley Pollard came on in relief, inducing a weak fly ball to right field to end the St. Clair threat.

  • The Hawks stole four bases and now lead the league in swiped bags with 13.
  • Riley Pollard recorded his fourth save of the season – the most in program history.

The Hawks will conclude its three-game homestand Sept. 22 when the Lambton Lions (0-4, 7th OCAA) at Connorvale Park. Game one scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
