Lords have perfect regular season for first time since 2003-04

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – The focus for the Durham College women's volleyball team will shift to the OCAA championship after taking tonight to celebrate the fact they're the first team since 2003-04 to have a perfect regular season.

The Lords capped off their conference play by sweeping the Fleming Knights in Peterborough. Durham's 3-0 victory means they also only lost five sets all year.

"We're happy and excited to win back-to-back east region titles and finish undefeated in the regular season," said head coach Tony Clarke. "We've accomplished step one of our goal this season – to win the east region – and now it's time to really get to work. The championship is like a whole new season and we'll work hard over the next week. We'll be ready to go."

Shannon Dean (Whitby, Ont.) finished the season with a match-high 18 points. The team's leader in hitting percentage had 11 kills on 16 attempts for a 0.688 percentage in her final regular season match as a Lord. She added six aces and a block.

First-year graphic design student Allyson Terwillegar (Enniskillen, Ont.) had her best match of the season, finishing with five kills and two blocks.

Oshawa native Lucia Kalmeyer finished with five kills.

Durham will hope to build on recent success at the OCAA championship as they've finished in the final four in each of the last two seasons, highlighted by a silver medal in 2015.

This is the first season since 2006-07 and 2007-08 that the program has won back-to-back regional titles.
