Women's Soccer Lose Tight Match to Open Season

Windsor, ON (Sept 9, 2022) The St. Clair women's soccer team lost a tough match on Friday night at Acumen Stadium at in front of a great crowd to open their OCAA regular Season. The Saints fell to the Mohawk Mountaineers (Hamilton) by a score of 3-2.

The Saints got off to a good start when Jaclyn French (Windsor; Brennan) scored a nice goal in the 8th minute. However the lead did not last long as Mohawk came back and scored in the 9th minute to tie the game 1-1.

French put St. Clair up 2-1 in the 42nd minute when she scored from long distance putting it in off the top bar and just inside the line.

Mohawk took over play in the second half as the Saints ran out of gas and tied the game in the 68th minute. The Mountaineers went up 3-2 in the 74th minute when they put one just over the keeper from distance.

Rookie Alec Habash (LaSalle; Assumption) also had a solid game for St. Clair along with French.

Goalkeeper Athena Dimario Done (Windsor, St. Joseph's) ended the match with 20 saves for the Saints.

In what is expected to be a rebuilding year the Saints only have 6 returning players on their rookie heavy roster of 21.

The Saints are next in action on Saturday, September 17 when they host the top ranked Humber Hawks at 4 pm at Acumen Stadium at the Sportsplex.
